There is poetic justice in being an orphan.

Abandoned as a baby on the steps of an orphanage in El Paso, governed by a cruel woman, Maddy quickly learns that no one really cares. No one expects you to amount to much, especially if you are never adopted and walk around topless to earn a living.

Most importantly, nobody suspects plain old Maddy Smith of being a prolific killer.

Or a formidable basilisk with exceptional powers.

In fact, most days it is advantageous to fade into the background and wait for a new target to slip up and be vulnerable enough to take out.

If only Maddy could explain why her words have such a powerful impact on others.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get answers to Maddy’s numerous questions.

That is until Alejandro Rivera, with his ties to one of the most dangerous cartel families, steps into the joint.

He is able to see her true form immediately and decides to strike a deal with her since their bond could be beneficial for both of them, especially in the precarious time of strive and war the cartels are entering.

What Alejandro didn’t know is that Maddy had her own agenda when she agreed to his terms.

She would sacrifice anything to get back what was taken from her, even if it meant losing a piece of herself in the process.

At the end, the only question left to answer is if that would be enough?
